Gandhidham, July 5 : As a tribute to the former Secretary, late Shri Haresh Sangtani, Kachchh District Table Tennis Association decided to rename the KDTTA Sports Complex, Adipur, as ‘Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex’. The decision was taken during Special Executive Committee Meeting held online on Sunday.
Haresh Sangtani, fondly known as Harshi, lost his battle against cancer last Tuesday (29.6.2021).
In the Special Executive Committee Meeting, virtually chaired by KDTTA President Shri Vipul Mittra, IAS, proposed to name KDTTA Sports Complex as Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex, which was unanimously accepted by the Members. “Harshi has been associated with the setting up of the KDTTA Sports Complex right from the land acquisition stage. Almost the entire credit of erecting this wonderful sports infrastructure goes to Harshi and it will be apt to name the complex after him,” said Mittra while paying tribute to his late confidant.
Meanwhile, Shri Dhanraj Choudhary, CEO, Table Tennis Federation of India, who was a special invitee in the virtual meeting, proposed to install a statue of former KDTTA Secretary in the Sports Complex. “My dear friend Harshi has been instrumental in popularising the game of table tennis not only in Kutch but across Gujarat. It will be a great tribute to his contribution if KDTTA installs his statue in the vicinity of Complex which also happens to be his hometown,” said Choudhary. The proposal was instantly accepted by the Members.
Before the start of the meeting, the quorum paid tribute to late Sangtani by observing two-minute silence. The Executive Committee Members unanimously accepted Manish Hingorani as the Hon. Secretary of KDTTA, which was proposed by Sr.Vice President Shri Naresh Bulchandani and seconded by Vice President Shri Vimal Gujaral. “It’s a big responsibility on my shoulders and I will give my cent percent to the trust reposed on me by the Association,” said Hingorani after the meeting.
