KARATE
ABOUT
In 1933, the Okinawan art of karate was recognized as a Japanese martial art by the Japanese Martial Arts Committee known as the “Butoku Kai”.
The word “Karate“ means the “empty hand”. It has been given this name because it involves a rapid use of hands and legs in an extreme close combat.
Karate is a Japanese martial art whose physical aspects seek the development of defensive and counterattacking body movements.
The themes of traditional Karate training are fighting and self-defense, though its mental and moral aspects target the overall improvement of the individual.
Karate uses all parts of the human body as a weapon such as the hand, fist, elbow, leg and knee.
